That is according to Interact’s Founder and CEO Nigel Danson. Speaking exclusively to HR Grapevine, he says: “Disengagement means that organisations aren’t getting the most out of their workforce. In fact, stats show that engaged employees are 38% more likely to have above average productivity and are three times more creative than disengaged employees.
“Engaged employees tend to stay in companies longer than their disengaged colleagues and with recruitment costing up to 150% of their salary, disengagement not only impacts productivity, but also company outgoings too.”
Interact surveyed 51 internal communications officers, intranet managers and HR professionals from across the globe. The results reveal the five most common signs of disengaged staff. 48.5% said that a lack of contribution was a clear sign. 24.2% said the same about dwindling team spirit. Rudeness was another clear sign, with 15.2% stating it as a sign of disengaged staff. While 6.1% said they’d start to worry if their staff missed deadlines, only six per cent said they’d be troubled if their staff turned up late for work.
