UKCES: 1 in 4 roles hard to fill due to skills shortages

The UK may have recovered from the recession, but now companies face a growing challenge of finding highly skilled staff.

That is the conclusion of a new report from the UK Commission for Employment and Skills (UKCES).

The report revealed that about 209,000 vacancies – or one in four jobs – are hard to fill due to a growing talent gap. The 91,000 companies UKCES surveyed reported that they had 928,000 vacancies in total.

Six per cent of the polled employers said they had at least one skills shortage vacancy in 2015. That is an increase from 2013, when just four per cent said the same.
