Firms still struggling to define 'talent'

Companies are still scrambling around in the dark to define ‘talent’ and ‘potential’.

Research by Penna has revealed that nearly a third of managers do not have any idea what potential is, and 79% do not have proper assessment and testing processes or tools in place to identify it.

It also seemed that potential was restricted to a single age group – 25- to 34-year-olds. 62% of managers said they focus their efforts on searching for potential in this age bracket.

In this month’s issue of HR Grapevine, Gilles Stephan, Talent Director at Balderton Capital, discussed his definition of talent: “Everyone could, and should, be defined as talent, as the term relates to the value that a person brings to the company.
