The environment employees work in is a key factor for engagement, according to Michael Kors' Learning & Development Director EMEA.
Speaking to HR Grapevine, Clare Eagle says: "I did a study on employee engagement, and working environment was one of the key factors that featured as to whether people were engaged or not in their organisations."
She says there are two sides to how workspace impacts employees. The first is "their ability to perform physically - is their enough space? Are they freezing cold? Do they have enough light?" But secondly "from an engagement perspective it's one of the key factors. Subconsciously you're thinking that how much your employer values you is based on the space they have given you to do the job.
"Even if it's not your immediate space. Do you have a kitchen? Have they taken away the microwave? Have they changed the brand of coffee? - people get annoyed by that type of thing so I think it has a massive impact."
