Samsung appears to have finally reached a deal with former employees who claim that exposure to chemicals in their factories resulted in cancer.
After spending over a year attempting to resolve complaints from workers, and calls from activist groups for the company to finally accept blame, Samsung has announced that they will implement an independent “ombudsman team”, according to the Financial Times.
Lawyers and activists representing the injured employees have accused Samsung bosses of ignoring the advice of a mediation committee set up to find a compromise between imposing sides.
Last year, Samsung announced that they would donate ₩100bn (£60 million) as a good will gesture to the families of the affected staff. However, the Financial Times reports that, whilst many employees applied for compensation, they had not received what they had been promised.
