Junior doctors strike for first time in 40 years for higher pay

38,000 members of the British Medical Association (BMA) went on strike on Tuesday morning after salary negotiations with the Government fell apart last week.

The junior doctors are expected to join 150 picket lines set up across the country. This is the first time in 40 years that junior doctors have gone on strike in the UK.

The strike comes as salary negotiations with the government failed on Friday.

While the Government has offered junior doctors an 11% pay rise, it also suggested slashing the extra hours in which junior doctors can claim extra pay.
