The path towards full diversity is proving smooth for some sectors, while for others there is still a long way to go before parity is achieved.
Writing in The Guardian, Daniele Fiandaca, Co-Founder of Token Man and a member of the team behind The Great British Diversity Experiment, has spent most of his career working in advertising where: “[it consists] primarily of white university-educated men, with the addition of the odd token woman. I justified my hiring policy by saying that I have always hired the best person for the job, but I have come to realise how short-sighted this is."
He says that the first thing that needs to be done is making people understand that they have an unconscious bias.
“Making people conscious of it is the first step, then offer them training and implement processes that seek to rid them of that bias,” he says.
