School revoke gay man's job offer

A candidate has had his job offer revoked when it came to light that he was gay.

Candidate Matthew Barrett was initially offered the position of Food Services Director at the prestigious Fontbonne Academy in Massachusetts, a private all-girls Catholic secondary school. However, Barrett was soon told that the college had reconsidered after seeing he had listed his emergency contact as his husband.  

Following the incident, Barrett pressed charges against Fontbonne, claiming the school had discriminated against him for his sexuality, and explaining that his personal life had no bearing on how well he could do his job.

Fontbonne Academy argued that as a Catholic school, and as such opposed to same-sex marriage, they were obliged to model the teachings and values of the Vatican, reports Breitbart. However, Superior Court Justice Douglas Wilkins outright rejected the school’s ideology, and ruled in Barrett's favour. Wilkins explained: “As an educational institution, Fontbonne retains control over its mission and message.
