A company without future leaders in its ranks is akin to a rudderless boat. HR must transfuse a culture of leadership into an organisation, and it shouldn’t stop at those considered high potential.
Nick Greer, Director of Studies - Online MSc Human Resource Management at the University of Liverpool, spoke to HR Grapevine about creating a culture of long-term leadership.
“One position is to consider leadership as being distributed through the organisation rather than confined to the ‘top team’, in which case there is a greater opportunity to consider the ‘manager as coach’ argument, as this similarly distributes the responsibility,” he said.
“Continuing from this position, the development begins the day an individual becomes an employee, and so this has implications in terms of recruitment and selection.”
