One third of professionals are overworking to the extent that they now abide by a six-day workweek, according to Regus.
The international workplace provider surveyed 1,194 Australian workers living in Brisbane. The results revealed that 39% of the employees were working one extra day per week, at the very least. However, 19% of the workers were putting in almost 15 extra hours of overtime every week, which translates to almost a seven-day working week.
John Henderson is the CEO of Regus Australia and New Zealand. He told the Financial Review that “it is worrying that a small proportion are working the equivalent of a seven-day week."
“Nine to five has gone to the dinosaurs’ graveyard. It doesn’t exist anymore,” Peter Wilson told the Financial Review. He is the Australian Human Resources Institute President. Wilson argued that the study is a part of a trend where employees are working more and more. He said that most professionals are working about 50 hours a week on average, with executives working about 80 hours a week.
