Top performers are all too often promoted in to leadership positions that they aren’t ready for.
And according to Irish rugby legend Ronan O’Gara, “there is nothing worse than a fella put in to a position of power that’s forcing it.”
Speaking at CoreHorizon 2015, an event hosted by CoreHR in Dublin, O’Gara revealed a number of parallels between rugby and the promotion of leaders.
He used the example of a Captain that is elected by the coach without any consideration for their ability to steer a team, someone who might have “absolutely zero presence” and whose “words are lost.”
