A teenager who worked for free after a misunderstanding in his employee contract has been given over £2,000 after the public launched a funding campaign.
As Executive Grapevine reported earlier this week, Jay El-Leboudy was initially offered a one week trial at his local Londis, however when EL-Leboudy raised his concerns that he had not been paid ten weeks into his new role, he was told that he was a volunteer.
Posting on the Canterbury Residents Facebook page, the teen’s mother Zoe Buckwell, asked for help from her neighbours, as she was “not sure what to do about it.”
She wrote: “He was waiting to get paid in all this time, because the shop owner said she needed permission from the council and his school before she could pay him. She's now decided to say she never agreed to pay him, it was only volunteer work.”
