Do HRDs make good NEDs?

The question of what it takes for an HRD to transition into a Non-Executive role has been given a lot of ground lately, with more and more HRDs looking to make the leap into the Boardroom.

At a recent London HR Connection event, chaired by international HR Director Craig McCoy, the debate centred around “Do HRDs make good NEDs?”

Speaking to Executive Grapevine, John Wrighthouse, HR and Communications Director for HomeServe and Non-Executive Director at Nationwide, explains how the traditional preconception of the Board is shifting in HRs favour.

He commented: “Large Boards are becoming a thing of the past and the days of turning up for a nice lunch have well and truly gone. Today’s business environment is more complex: there’s more regulation and Boards are more aware of the potential for governance failure.
