How low pay nearly deprived the world of Han Solo

Han Solo may be one of the most iconic movie characters of all time, but a miserly salary nearly caused actor Harrison Ford to reject the role of the wise-cracking space-smuggler.

The 73-year-old actor said during an interview with the ABC show Good Morning America that the initial salary was lower than he expected, so much so that he declined the position first time around.

Ford said: “A friend of mine that produced American Graffiti somehow connived to get me to read the lines with people that were auditioning for the parts of Princess Leia and Luke Skywalker. I thought I was just helping out.”

But the people watching the auditions thought he did such a great job as the Corellian anti-hero that they offered him the role.
