Apple workers at its flagship Regent Street store deleted the contents of one customer’s phone, and the tech firm has now had to pay out thousands in compensation and costs.
The customer, Deric White, christened it a “monumental victory for the small man”, after Apple paid him £1,200 in compensation and £800 in costs after losing a damages case.
Speaking to The Sun, he said the workers were conscious of what they had done: “Apple vandalised my phone. They knew they had done it and just sent me on my way like an imbecile. They slapped me across the head and treated me like an idiot. That insult is still with me today.”
A staff member offered to set up an iCloud account for him, but White believed the gesture was empty: “If he’s such a ‘genius’, shouldn’t he have done that before? It’s absolute tosh.”
