25% of employees vow to 'drink less' at this year's Xmas party

Christmas parties are meant to be a chance for employees to let their hair down, and relax together with their co-workers. Unfortunately, some employees tend to relax a bit much, turning the event in to something less than ideal. Maybe it is not surprising then that one in four employees have vowed to drink less at this year’s Christmas party, according to a new survey.

Igniyte commissioned the report. It reveals that many UK workers were planning on avoiding the open bars of the parties out of fear of embarrassing themselves in front of their colleagues. Ten per cent of British employees admitted to have been drinking so much alcohol in their past festive nights out that they were unable to turn up to work the next day.

What’s more, almost 30% of workers claim they have flirted with a colleague at a Christmas party, and another ten per cent of staff say that they plan to tell a co-worker they have feelings for them at the upcoming party.

In a breakdown of the report, it seems that employees from the property sector were most likely to get themselves into some sticky situations at the office party. One in ten workers in this particular industry has received a written or verbal warning following their party antics, and a surprising eight per cent have actually been fired following a Christmas party.
