The Facebook Founder has announced that he will take two months of paternity leave after his wife has given birth to the couple’s first child.
Mark Zuckerberg explained his decision in a post on Facebook saying that it was a “very personal decision”.
The Chief Executive Officer continued: “Studies show that when working parents take time to be with their newborns, outcomes are better for the children and families. At Facebook we offer our US employees up to four months of paid maternity or paternity leave which they can take throughout the year.”
The Huffington Post reports that it is unheard of for the CEO of a Fortune 100 company to take either paternity or maternity leave. The publication argues that this is a signal that it is okay for men to “prioritise family over their jobs – at least for a hot second when you have a brand-new infant at home.”
