'Female candidates preferred' - sexist job ad faces backlash

A company is facing criticism on social media after it posted a “sexist” job advert stating that “female candidates are preferred” since the job includes “the responsibilities of a receptionist.”

Vestra Inet is the Toronto-based web development company responsible for the job posting. The company posted the advert looking for a Content Writer/SEO Specialist on LinkedIn.

Most of the required skills were quite common for the role and included “excellent grammar”, “computer knowledge” and “communication skills.” However, the last line of the posting has caused outrage on social media.

The post ended: “Please note that the position requires filling in the responsibilities of a receptionist, so female candidates are preferred.”
