Proving that it is possible to simultaneously have an exemplary employer brand and company brand, workers at a McDonald’s restaurant recently stunned a 93-year-old widower who they had all grown close to, by throwing him a surprise birthday party.
Harry Scott started going to his local McDonald’s in 2013 to cope with the loss of his wife. He quickly made friends with the staff, going every day of the week, except Sundays. Scott even has his own table in the restaurant where he eats his daily Happy Meal.
But last week he was in for a surprise. Scott was pleasantly shocked when he came in to have his daily burger in the Workington restaurant only to find that the staff had thrown him a birthday party complete with balloons, banners and presents. The workers had all chipped in to buy Scott shortbread and a bottle of whiskey.
Scott told the Mirror: “The kids who come in here are mine as I don’t have any of my own. It’s company for me.”
