Should workplaces breathalyse staff?

The Christmas season is upon us. How will you be celebrating?

According to Direct365, a quarter of employees plan to get into the festive spirit by drinking on a work night. While this may not come as a surprise, it can cause problems for HR departments.

If an employee has exceeded their recommended daily allowance (three to four units for men, and two to three for women), and may be over the legal limit the following day, should they be breathalysed?        

Speaking to HR Grapevine, Emma Gilroy, Brand Development Manager at Direct365, said: “Only in exceptional circumstances.”
