77% of employers worried about baby boomer skills gap

Three quarters of finance directors are anxious about the safety of their business following an ongoing struggle with a turbulent skills gap, according to new research.

The report, commissioned by Robert Half, found that as the baby boomer generation reaches retirement age worries surface over the safety of businesses. 88% of senior financial executives surveyed admitted that they were already taking steps to control the impact from the loss of older employees leaving.

Phil Sheridan, UK Managing Director of Robert Half,  explained the results of the research, saying: “Employers are facing a profound shift as baby boomers look to exit the workforce, compounding the existing skills gap.

“With employers challenged in finding the skills they need to grow their businesses, establishing a succession plan with a robust attraction and retention strategy will be critical to succeed in today’s economy.
