Claire Cusack, Head of HR at Allianz Worldwide Care, spoke to HR Grapevine last year about what it takes to be a successful HR professional. We caught up with her again to discuss her career, and how she has fared this past year.
Why did you choose HR as a career path?
Having attained a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, I reached something of a crossroads as to whether I should go down the clinical route or a more business-oriented one. Favouring the business option, I did an MA in Occupational Psychology and Human Resource Management, which affirmed my interest in working in HR. I really enjoy working with people and coming up with solutions for employees’ needs. The fact that HR divisions are crucial to the needs of businesses creates a working environment that is challenging but also full of reward.
Seeing the fruits of my labour through company growth and employee retention are clear indications that I have chosen a career that’s right for me.
