Uber and Lyft have teamed together in the spirit of remembrance to offer “tens of thousands” of free rides to and from job interviews for all army veterans across America.
The initiative hopes to assist ex-military personnel into finding employment. According to recent report conducted by The White House, there are approximately 50,000 homeless veterans in the US, two-thirds of which have no access to transportation.
Uber has pledged to donate 10,000 free journeys, costing an estimated £100,000, whilst Lyft explained during an interview with Techcrunch that they would be giving away “thousands of free rides in total.”
The scheme has been backed by the US government, in particular by the Michelle Obama and Vice President Joe Biden, who launched the PenFed Foundation which offers funding to veterans who have lost their jobs.
