After having their personal details leaked onto the internet, over 2,000 staff are set to sue the supermarket chain Morrisons.
They contest that more should have been done to protect their data. They also say that their employer was responsible for breaches of privacy, confidence, and data protection law. The leak occurred in March 2014.
It is anticipated that more staff will join the claim. Lawyers have been given a four-month ‘sign-up’ period for this. Claimants consist of those who worked at Morrisons, as well as its subsidiary Farmers Boy or former business Kiddicare, before November 2014.
Andrew Skelton, the auditor who was responsible for the hack, was sentenced in July to eight years in jail. Prior to the disclosure of the information, Skelton had been disciplined for using the post room for eBay deals.
