Inspirational Barbie ad shows young girls in top jobs

A female football coach, a professor and a museum curator are some of the careers seen carried out by young girls in a new Barbie advert.

Mattel, the creators of Barbie, have been heavily criticised in the past.  The company has been blamed for providing girls with unrealistic body image expectations thanks to the blonde doll’s impossible vital statistics. As well as having an unhealthy obsession with boys and beauty.

However, the latest advert, entitled ‘Imagined possibilities’ is designed to inspire and show young girls that they can be, and achieve, anything they want to.

Five young girls are filmed carrying out the jobs they want to do when they grow up. Including a professor, a vet, a football coach, a businesswoman and a museum curator.
