One in four people have taken time off work due to stress, according to a new study.
A report by protection provider LV=, has found more and more employees are routinely hiding their stress levels and returning to work a lot sooner than they should. The study also uncovered that over 13.4million UK employees have taken time off due to workplace stress during the last five years.
56% of workers blame unrealistic deadlines or a heavy workload, whilst others claim triggers include longer working hours (53%) or lack of support and training (44%).
Despite the stress epidemic, the majority of employees asked claimed that they had lied to their colleagues about why they were taking days off, blaming other illnesses such as migraines or the flu.
