Recruitment firm helps refugees find work

Following the recent refugee crisis, Recruitment Grapevine reported on a German start-up which aimed to place people into relevant roles in the community.

And now it’s fallen to recruitment consultancy Brightwork Group to continue the tradition of good will. The Edinburgh based company has vowed to match hard-working refugees with willing employers in a variety of careers. Brightwork has so far placed asylum seekers, who have been given the right to work in the UK, jobs such as domestic workers, security guards, concierges and school caretakers. Several have gone on to permanent employment or full-time university study.

Kim Hill, Principal Consultant at Brightwork, spoke to Recruitment Grapevine and explained the importance of the scheme: “Refugees are important to the economy. Once a refugee is given the right to work in the UK they are entitled to employment, we do not discriminate in any way against anyone who is seeking to work with Brightwork.

“We have placed a large number of refugees who have settled in Scotland into a number of assignments and we have found that there is consistently good feedback from the end employer.  There have been a number of instances where they have been given a permanent job which has arisen from a temporary assignment.”
