LinkedIn staff will no longer have a minimum or maximum holiday allowance.
The decision will affect over 8,700 employees in over 30 cities across the globe. 4th July will also be turned into an extra-long holiday break. Virgin has similar scheme in place for its workers.
In a blog post titled Acting Like an Owner When it Comes to Taking Time Off posted on LinkedIn, Pat Wadors, SVP Global Talent Organisation at the company, wrote: “To give our employees more flexibility and a sense of empowerment, we have just announced a big shift in the vacation benefits we offer in the United States. Instead of the traditional vacation model of offering a fixed number of hours or days off per year, we are implementing a new approach called Discretionary Time Off (DTO) starting 1st November.
“With discretionary time off, there is no set minimum or maximum amount of vacation time employees can take in a year. Instead, employees will work with their manager to request time off when they need it.
