VW Chief blames rogue German engineers for scandal

The scandal currently faced by Volkswagen (VW), which claims that the car company doctored their emissions tests, was down to “a couple of software engineers,” according to Michael Horn, VW’s US Chief Executive.

The issue, which is costing VW billions of pounds in revenue and legal fees, has meant a torrent of media attention and speculation as to the guilty parties and the future of the manufacturing conglomerate.

Testifying before a congressional committee in Washington DC earlier this week, Horn promised a full and thorough investigation. When he was asked who was to blame, Horn explained that it was down to just a handful of German engineers. “I agree it’s hard to believe,” admitted the CEO, when he was challenged on his opinion by sceptical committee members.    

These allegations came just as German police raided VW headquarters in Wolfsburg in order to look for evidence.
