Suffragette writer dropped from project because she 'couldn't flirt'

An Emmy-winning and BAFTA-nominated screenwriter has spoken out about the sexist attitudes that resulted in her departing a project.  

Speaking at the panel at the BFI London Film Festival, film and TV writer Abi Morgan, said she was released from a project two or three years ago “because I was told I didn’t know how to flirt with the director.”

Her new film, Suffragette, is about women’s battle for the right to vote. Her previous work includes The Hour and The Iron Lady.

She went on to say: "When you engage with moments of everyday sexism then you have to recognise that, as much as I feel equal in the world, and as much as I am trying to promote and support equality in the world, there is another dialogue and another narrative going on.
