EXCLUSIVE: Ex-Apprentice Aide, Nick Hewer, talks HR and Recruitment

As the new batch of contestants for The Apprentice are revealed ahead of the shows release next Wednesday, Nick Hewer - a former adviser to Lord Alan Sugar on the reality program, current host of Countdown, and an Ambassador for Citation - tells Executive Grapevine the lessons he learnt running his own PR agency. 

How has HR changed throughout your career?

When I started in business as an employee, which was 1966, HR was called ‘personnel’ or ‘the bloke who gives you a job.’

It was relatively simple. You sent him a CV, you got the interview, and then you got the job. It’s a much more complex situation now. In a small company it’s one of the big problems; back in those days I had 25 people.
