Sports Direct is facing an employee wellbeing crisis as a BBC documentary is set to show that workers are too scared to call in sick.
Ambulances have been called into Sports Directs 82 times in the past two years, with 36 of these incidents deemed as “life-threatening,” according to an investigation.
BBC Inside Out alleges that the 36 “life-threatening” illnesses include a member of staff suffering from a stroke, a woman giving birth in the toilet, and an employee having a fit.
The investigation, which will air on BBC tonight, specifically mentions employee Guntars Zarins. He suffered a stroke in the warehouse refectory. His daughter says that the illness became ill whilst at work, but that Sports Direct is not at fault for the illness. However, the company assert that Zarins appeared for work on the wrong day.
