Is legislation needed to protect health of too-skinny models?

Last week, a petition that called for models to be protected from becoming dangerously skinny surpassed 55,000 signatures.

Caroline Nokes MP, who is Chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Body Image, will be inviting senior members of the fashion industry to collate their views on whether legislation will need to be implemented to shield young models from exploitation.

Nokes says that the inquiry will commence in November: “Legislation should be a last resort, but I’m conscious the fashion industry isn’t responding to calls for change. We would prefer a code of conduct, if we could feel confident it would be adhered to.”
