Nearly half of women are too nervous to ask for a promotion

Almost half of female employees are too scared to ask for a pay rise, according to a new report.

The research conducted by holiday maker Inghams has found that 45% of women are too nervous to ask for a promotion compared to just 30% of men. The study also found that 33% of employees are working in fields they don’t want to be in. 36% claim it’s too hard to land a job in their preferred industry.

Louise Newton, Group Head of Digital Marketing for Hotelplan, said: “The results of the survey have surprised us all, particularly the response given by women. It is essential that those who are in a position to encourage women to be more confident and forthright in the office do so through professional encouragement, public recognition of work achievements and recognition of the difficulties faced in the workplace.”

With 28% of 18-24 year olds saying that they are still not working in their desired field, 27% of these put it down to having to start at the bottom of the career ladder.
