Apple’s latest announcement has covered new iPads, iPhones, Apple TVs, a Watch upgrade... and a Pencil.
The new iPad Pro will be compatible with the new Apple Pencil. This new stylus will allow designers to work with increased accuracy and finesse as the new technology detects how much pressure, and at what angle, the Apple Pencil (and human touch) is being used.
The pressure sensitive technology can also work for shortcuts. For example, pressing hard on ‘maps’ could bring up the route home, or deeply tapping on emails could take you straight to your flagged emails.
However, eight years ago, Steve Jobs had this to say about a stylus: “How are we going to communicate this? We don’t want to carry around a mouse, right? So what are we going to do? Oh, a stylus, right? We’re going to use a stylus. No. Who wants a stylus? You have to get them, and put them away. Yuck. Nobody wants a stylus. So let’s not use a stylus.”
There was also some controversy at the launch event with one of the demos of the iPad Pro by Adobe. It showed how to photographically alter a woman’s face by turning her neutral expression into a smile.
