Finland announces plans to cut sick pay to boost economy

Finland is trying hard to turn around its ailing economy with proposals to cut sick pay for employees.

The government has also suggested cutting two bank holidays, overtime and Sunday working.

According to the government, reducing annual leave entitlement to 30 days from 38 will save them €640million. Epiphany and Ascension days will also no longer be paid public holidays.

With the new policy, it will mean workers will have their first day of sick leave unpaid, with the rest paid at 80% of the normal salary. This is predicted to save €307million.
