Chef fired by text awarded £15,000

A worker who was unfairly dismissed via text message has been awarded £15,000 at an employment tribunal.

Christopher Hillis, former chef at Glaswegian restaurant Cail Bruich, queried his below minimum wage with his manager two days before he was unfairly dismissed. Hillis was told he was being fired because he had called in sick however, he claims it was because he brought up the issue of his poor pay with his superiors.

Chris Charalambous, the restaurant’s owner, sent Hillis an extremely abusive message, writing: “You’re (sic) not. You must think I’m a f***y.”

“You’ve left me and the team in the sh*t twice now on a Saturday with your b******t sickness excuses.
