2/3 staff believe strict dress codes should be implemented at work

One third of British employees are against expressing personal style in the workplace, according to new research.

The study interviewed over 1,500 workers at all levels of employment and revealed that 64.2% of staff think their managers should enforce a strict work-wear policy.

The study aimed to look at  employees thoughts on personal styles in the office, with 13.1% of workers believe their appearance is holding them back in their careers. Of those who had expressed personal style, 17% admitted that they were made to feel uncomfortable. A further 13.7% of UK professionals have been advised by a manager that their appearance is unacceptable for the workplace.

Lee Biggins, Managing Director of CV Library, explained the surprising results. He said: “Whether we like it or not, we are all judged by our appearances and it’s important that employees seriously consider the consequences of any choices they make when it comes to expressing personal style at work.
