Police forces in England have given civillian staff company cars equipped with flashing lights and sirens.
Senior employees in HR, IT, and Finance were among the nine members of staff given the vehicles across seven police forces.
Vehicles that are used for emergency purposes are allowed favourable tax breaks. The forces in question deny that they were used for tax avoidance purposes. They insisted that they were part of a wider fleet.
None of the vehicles were used for emergency purposes, and the drivers were not sufficiently trained to use them.
