ASOS Founder steps down as CEO with immediate effect

The founder of online clothing company ASOS has announced that he will be stepping down as CEO with immediate effect.

Nick Robertson confirmed his decision to leave the business in a statement delivered to the Stock Exchange this morning. Marking 15 years since he first started the merchandising site, Robertson has promised to remain on the Board as a Non-Executive Director. The position of Chief Executive will go to the current Chief Operating Officer, Nick Beighton.

The move comes after a rocky 18 months for Robertson, including profit scares, a fire at one of a warehouses and low international sales.

Brian McBride, Chairman of ASOS, has comments on Robertson’s history at the start-up: “On behalf of everyone who works at ASOS, I'd like to acknowledge Nick Robertson's extraordinary achievement.
