71% of employees who go on holiday during their annual leave report feeling more satisfied and happy with their lives overall, compared to people who never commit to taking a break, according to new research.
A report written by Diamond Resorts International has revealed that those who go on holiday regularly are much happier in their respective professions and have healthier relationships. Yet, the study, which was complied with help from Nielsen Research, also uncovered that 52% of UK workers did not take their annual leave last year, forfeiting more than seven days of designated allowance.
With more than half of employee’s currently prioritising work over play, it is likely that bosses will find themselves dealing with a stressed and weary workforce.
Speaking to HR Grapevine, Ben Bengougam, Vice President, HR, EMEA at Hilton Worldwide, explains the importance of encouraging staff to take their holidays. He says: “We at Hilton Worldwide believe all our team members should take their full holiday entitlements and our senior leaders lead from the front on this by doing so themselves. In order to embed this practice further, we have also adjusted our policy so that team members can’t carry over holiday entitlement from one year to the next.”
