Staff at Amazon UK have developed physical and mental illness due to their workload and environment, warns GMB trade unions.
Following the recent damning report looking into workplace culture at Amazon, the delivery company’s UK based departments have now fallen under media scrutiny. Elly Baker, Lead Officer for Amazon at GMB, explained to The Times in an interview, that British staff were under too much pressure to be an “above-average Amazon robot”.
Baker’s remarks come after a report written by The New York Times attacked Amazon’s harsh treatment of employees and total disregard for personal crises.
Jeff Bezos, CEO of Amazon, quickly reassured his employees, and the general public, that this depiction was not a company that he “recognised.” However, he also urged workers who were unhappy to “escalate to HR”.
