Over a million people aged over fifty have been pushed out of the workplace involuntarily, according to a report by Business in the Community (BIC).
Research conducted by the International Longevity Centre (ILC) identified that the employment market is heading towards a 7.5 million skills gap by 2022. It shows that the older workers could potentially boost the economy by £88 billion if they were to stay in work for longer.
This number is steadily rising because of reasons such as redundancy, early retirement and ill health. Yet the most important reason is due to the age discrimination in the workplace.
The ageing population is on track for approximately 19 million people over the age of 65 by 2050. In order to address the issue, BIC held an event in Manchester.
