Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) is facing calls to guarantee that its 36,000 UK workers will not lose their jobs.
JLR are currently carrying out a feasibility study on a factory in Nitra, Slovakia. The company’s aim is to reach an annual output of up to 300,000 cars over the decade from 2018. JLR also produce cars in India and China, with another factory in Brazil due to open next year.
Des Quinn, the Unite Officer for JLR, said: “[The expansion] should not be to the detriment of the UK workforce who have built the foundations for that global success.”
“They made sacrifices and worked tirelessly through the dark days to make JLR the world leader it is today and their skills and craftsmanship are central to the carmaker’s continued success. We trust that JLR recognises this by giving assurances on job security for the future.”
