Ahead of tomorrow’s ‘National Left-Handers Day,’ a new survey has found that one in five workers face practical problems at work because they are left-handed.
The research, conducted by CV-Library, discovered that 96.7% of UK employers do not ask new staff if they are left-handed. Only 25.4% provide left-handed staff with specialist office equipment.
Keith Milsom, owner of ‘Anything Left Handed,’ and initiator of National Left-Handers Day, says: “Left-Handers face real, practical challenges at work, from conducting simple tasks, such as having to use right-handed scissors that don't cut, to persevering with entire workstations being laid out incorrectly, making them difficult and uncomfortable to use.”
12% of the UK population, approximately 4.5million people, are left-handed. 82.4% of these employees think that it is the employer’s responsibility to provide adequate left-handed tools in the workplace.
