UK employers plan to hire more young jobseekers after “dark decade”

More UK employers are looking to fill their skills gap with young jobseekers as unemployment keeps falling. But many school leavers are uninformed about alternatives to university studies, according to CIPD.

CIPD has released its Labour Market Outlook report. The report shows that employers are increasingly turning to Britain’s young to fill their vacancies. 33% plan to hire more apprenticeships. 26% predict that they will hire more graduates.12% says that they will hire more school leavers.

Gerywn Davies is a Labour Market Analyst at CIPD. He says: “After a long, dark decade, the prospects for young people are finally looking brighter. The tightening labour market is undoubtedly encouraging more employers to turn to a wider range of younger recruits. 

“However, it is also due to a recognition among a growing number of employers that they need to develop talent to limit the potential for future labour shortages and pay pressures.
