How to stop staff skiving off during the Rugby World Cup

HR needs to focus efforts on embracing the Rugby World Cup if it wishes to avert a loss of productivity this Autumn.

A survey from CV-Library has suggested that one in seven workers are tempted to skive work during the upcoming Rugby World Cup. In real terms, this equates to 4.4million of the UK’s 31million employees may be skipping work this September and October.

40.7% of professionals plan to watch games during work hours. The figure rises to 48.5% for managers. 5.8% of staff have booked time off to watch matches.

Speaking to HR Grapevine, Lee Biggins, Managing Director and Founder of CV-Library, said workplaces must embrace the tournament: “With such a high number of employees showing enthusiasm for the Rugby World Cup, it is recommended that employers embrace events such as these, rather than circumvent them.
