Men use workplace sexism to bond, claims professor

Men use sexism with their male colleagues as a ‘bonding experience’, according to an academic and expert on workplace gender issues.

Paula Nicolson, Professor of Health and Social Care at Royal Holloway, detailed her experiences with sexism at work in the Times Higher Education Supplement.

Her comments were in response to the resignation of Sir Tim Hunt from his post at the University College London earlier in the year. Hunt claimed that female scientists working in labs either fell in love with their male peers, their male peers fell in love with them, or they cry.

Nicolson said that Hunt’s comments had made her think back over her own career.
