UK border official denied right to know why he was fired on national security grounds

A former UK border official has been denied the right to know why the Home Office fired him seven years ago due to national security reasons.

A 54-year old man was fired days after returning from a holiday to see his parents in Pakistan in 2008. When he arrived at work one morning, he was told that his employment had been terminated.

The man, referred to as “C”, told The Independent that he was met by his senior manager when he entered Harmondsworth detention centre where he worked.

He said: “She told me that I’d been suspended from duty but that she could not give me any information. She took my passes and told me not to contact the office any more. Later I was told there were ‘national security concerns’.”
