Jake Gyllenhaal: Actors taking 'dangerous risks' for work

Jake Gyllenhaal has warned actors to be “mindful” if they are taking “dangerous risks.”

Speaking to the BBC, Gyllenhaal said: "Someone came to me and said, 'I'm going to play a drug addict - should I try the drug?' and I was like, 'no'."

Gyllenhaal recently lost 15kg for the role of Billy Hope in his latest film Southpaw. He trained six hours a day for six months.

He also lost 13.6kg for the part of Lou Bloom in last year’s Nightcrawler, living on a diet of chewing gum and kale, while running 15 miles every night to get into character.
